Assumptions
- Vercel list prices (Pro, 1 seat), re-read from their docs on 25 September 2026 — their regional-pricing page for Washington D.C. (iad1), their Flat Rate CDN page and their Pro-plan page. Enterprise discounts not modeled.
- Our bandwidth is priced per zone at 2× what the CDN costs us: US/EU $0.02/GB, up to $0.12 for MEA. Vercel's is not flat: their published Fast Data Transfer rate runs $0.15–$0.35/GB depending on the region, and the $0.15 used here is their Washington D.C. figure — their floor, so this column is the version most generous to them. Our 150 GB allowance covers US/EU traffic; international bytes bill from the first GB.
- Vercel's credit mechanic per its Pro-plan docs (September 2026): Pro includes the lowest Flat Rate CDN tier — 1 TB of transfer and 1 million CDN requests — and past those allowances all usage (compute, builds, bandwidth, requests) draws the $20 credit before on-demand billing starts. We had 10M requests here until 25 September; their own Flat Rate CDN table puts 10M in the $20/month tier, not the included one.
- Vercel builds are priced as its default Elastic machines at 4 CPUs ($0.014/min); teams that stay on queued Standard builds pay $0 for builds there.
- Origin transfer (server responses + CDN cache fills) is metered on both sides: $0.02/GB here — a third of Vercel's $0.06 Fast Origin Transfer.
- Vercel meters we don't model — ISR reads/writes, image optimization, analytics — would only raise the Vercel column. Compute rates shown are its Washington D.C. (iad1) rates; their published ranges go to $0.0183/GB-hr for memory and $0.221/hr for active CPU elsewhere.
- Compute is metered on the same two axes, with the same dynamics, on both sides: provisioned memory bills only while a request is in flight, and active CPU bills only while your code is executing — idle time and I/O waits are free here and on Vercel. Our memory rate is half their Washington D.C. rate ($0.0053 vs $0.0106/GB-hr) and our active CPU is half theirs ($0.064 vs $0.128). Same meter, half the price — no asymmetry to adjust for.
- We scale to zero: an app with no traffic bills $0 of usage, and wakes when the next request lands — the demo on the pricing page lets you time that yourself. Vercel's side of this is not a paid feature and we no longer say it is: fluid compute has been their default for new projects since April 2025 and its cold-start work costs nothing, though their own docs describe it as reducing the effects of a cold start rather than removing it, and exclude preview deployments from it. Between bursts we keep your app warm for 15 minutes at our own cost; you are not billed for that time. Check both columns against a real month.
When not to switch
- A static site around a terabyte a month with a heavily international audience can still land a few dollars cheaper inside Vercel Pro's included 1 TB — try the "Content site" preset. That's the one profile in our benchmarks where Vercel comes out ahead.
- Side project not making money yet? Vercel's free Hobby tier is honestly fine. Come back when it starts earning — commercial use is where their $20/seat kicks in and our $7 starts.
